MIT scientists will teach robots to handle any objects

So far, the robots before the start of using any tool undergo a course on how to work with it, soon it may become irrelevant, because the researchers from MIT created a program that allows the robot to find the methods of interaction with an object unfamiliar to him.

Scientists from the American university in Massachusetts created a new system called kPAM, which will allow any robot to use the object, even if he has not been trained in working with him. The researchers decided to provide the robot with a list of several points in three-dimensional space on each object, be it a cup or a pair of shoes, which allow the machine a list of operations possible when interacting with a new subject. The video shows such points for the cup, which the robot who did not previously know how to handle the cups takes and hangs the handle on the stand.
