Massage bath: how it works and how to use it

A foot massage bath is a great way to unwind after a long day at work. If you are considering buying such a device, it is worth studying in more detail how it works and what useful features it has. We will talk about the design of the massage bath and give some tips on how to use it.

How does a foot bath work?
Despite the verbose advertising of many manufacturers, almost all bathtubs have three main modes of operation.

The first one is the vibration mode. A small motor is built into the design, which creates vibrations. This mode promotes blood circulation, especially if there are also massage rollers in the bowl.

The second is the supply of bubbles. At the bottom of the bath there are several tubes through which air is supplied to the bowl. However, in cheap models, the flow of bubbles is usually quite weak, so the effect may disappoint you. Additionally, bubbles contribute to accelerated cooling of water, keep this in mind.

And the last mode is maintaining the temperature. This feature is available in almost all foot baths and for most buyers – the most important. Heating elements are usually located under the bottom, and are able to heat water up to +40 °C. Inexpensive bathtubs can take up to 20 minutes to heat up.

Some manufacturers also claim additional modes, such as magnetic exposure. However, in fact, this is more of a marketing ploy, since no real benefit has been proven. Thus, baths with a standard set of functions differ only in the quality of materials and components.

What not to do with a massage bath
Expensive baths have a high level of protection against electric shock, which cannot be said about relatively cheap models. One of the main vulnerabilities in the design is the mode switch. In inexpensive devices, it does not have any kind of waterproofing. Usually, the instructions explicitly state that touching such a switch with wet hands is strictly prohibited.

Of course, this does not mean that you will immediately be shocked as soon as you raise your hand. The wires under the switch should be securely insulated, but it’s best to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.

What you definitely should not do is pour water. In most baths, there is a mark on the inner walls indicating the maximum allowable water level. However, it is not recommended to pour up to the very “belt” (when you put your feet in the bath, the level will rise).

In the bubble mode, the water will also splash. This is dangerous for models with low quality insulation of control elements, which is usually not written in the instructions.

Some baths are forbidden to turn on without water – as a rule, this is indicated by the “minimum” mark

What can and can not be added to the massage bath
You can improve the tonic effect of the bath with the help of various oils and salts. Whether they can be added to water – this must be clarified in the instructions or directly from the manufacturer.

If the bath is not designed for this, then you may encounter a whole list of problems. For example, salts can block the air outlets.

But soapy water usually does not cause problems. The main thing here is to monitor the “volume” – bubbles can easily get on the control organs, which is better to avoid.

How to use the massage bath
Rule one – always install the bath on a flat and stable surface. This way you will definitely avoid water overflows. Do not forget that in some models quite powerful vibration modes are another reason to securely fix the bath.

Keep all kinds of surge protectors and extension cords away from the bath. As a last resort, try to put them higher so that the splashes from the bath do not exactly cause a short circuit.

However, the preparations do not end there. For maximum comfort, we recommend enjoying a massage and warm water in a comfortable chair. This will allow you to shift the center of gravity and relax your legs during the procedure.

Also, be careful when using nozzles built into the bath. If too much force is applied, the entire structure can be turned over. Never get up while your feet are in the bath. The plastic construction is not designed for such loads and may crack.

The actual question is how long to massage, is it possible to sit in such a bath for an hour or more? This information is indicated in the instructions – manufacturers recommend up to two sessions per day lasting no more than 15 minutes. If you have any serious health problems, then it would be useful to consult a doctor about the use of such devices. For example, the use of a bath is not recommended for varicose veins in the legs.

After the procedure, be sure to wash the bath – watch the power cord so that it does not get into the water. Do not forget that in addition you will have to find a place for storage.

conclusions
A foot massage bath is a fairly simple device, the operation of which should not cause problems. Before use, be sure to read the instructions – in it you will find important restrictions, recommendations regarding the frequency of massage and other useful information.
