Disinfectant, food and soluble plastic ready

Plastics are now a terrible problem for the whole world. In this context, Brazilian scientists have developed a bactericidal, self-destructing and even edible plastic.

Professor Marcia Regina de Mora from the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil has created this green plastic from biological polymer which can also be called ‘bioplastic’. His team took pre-made cattle gelatin-based plastics, also known as type B bovine gelatin. It is also available in the form of a colorless, odorless and tasteless powder.

But it does not have the strength and flexibility found in conventional petroleum plastics. Dr. Marcia added a special type of slurry called nanoclay, which also contained sodium Na +. This increased the elasticity and strength of plastics whose tensile strength reached 70 megapascals.
But it also contained nano emulsions derived from black pepper, after which the plastic now smelled and tasted. This compound increases the storage time of plastics. But in the end, it turned out that this plastic also has antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.

Dr. Marcia is very optimistic that this low cost and eco-friendly plastic can be used in minimal bags and packaging. This way it can be more effective than conventional plastics.

The same research team has also developed bio-plastics that can be eaten after some modifications, as well as wound dressings that keep bacteria away.
