At least 17 people have been killed and 22 others injured in a football match in Mexico

At least 17 people have been killed and 22 others injured in a football match in central Mexico.

The game between Queretaro and Atlas started 62 minutes into the Mexican Football League, during which fans of both teams clashed, with two of the injured in critical condition.

Meanwhile, security personnel opened all the main and secondary doors of the football ground so that the spectators, including women and children, could leave. He further added that independent sources could not confirm the death toll.
The league condemned the violence in a message on its official Twitter account. League President Michael Areola said the game would not start again. He said those responsible for the lack of security at the stadium would be punished.

Numerous videos that have gone viral on social media contain shocking scenes in which several spectators can be seen in a bloody state while some have been stripped naked.

A video shows a man lying on the ground being brutally beaten by several other spectators.
