Surprisingly, American citizens were robbed last year in the name of love, with fake profiles on dating, romance and dating websites, amounting to a billion dollars, according to the FBI.
Throughout the year 2021, more than 24,000 Americans have fallen victim to it on romance scamming websites. Thus, this year proved to be a lucrative year for the looters. On the other hand, many fake artists have also extorted money from their fans in the form of corrupt currency. In other words, 25% of the counterfeit money has been paid through cryptocurrency.
Thus, those who have lost cryptocurrency have lost an average of ten thousand dollars. In addition, internet fraudsters lured people to fake and anonymous cryptocurrencies and in return looted real money but overall people’s feelings were played with and they were deceived by fake love.
Fake people on love websites and dating apps have been targeted by fake people of almost all ages, but the looters are mostly young couples who were looking for a love or a life partner. They include people between the ages of 18 and 29, and some even in their 70s, who have been caught in a love affair and lost money.
According to investigators, the trend escalated dramatically between lockouts because people were lonely and wanted to talk to someone of the opposite sex. In the same period, friendships and dating websites flourished and new avenues of fraud were opened.
