Wolfberry or goji berry, a common delicacy found in China and North America, has been eaten for thousands of years. It is now known that it also protects against Alzheimer’s and brain degeneration.
Chinese scientists have discovered a complete scientific method to prevent Alzheimer’s from this berry. It is also commonly used in Chinese food. These dried berries and their supplements are now also available in Pakistan.
We already know that goji berries are full of antioxidant properties and compensate for the loss of reactive oxygen. Reactive oxygen species can cause heart disease, cancer and brain degeneration.
In a patient study, experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences examined the nervous system of goji berry at the molecular level. First of all, they have been tested on C. elegans ketchup. Scientists were surprised to learn that the important chemical constituents of berries eliminate amyloid beta protein, which can cause Alzheimer’s. It should be noted that this protein attaches to the brain cells and weakens their ability.
All of these investigations are published in the FASEB Journal. It basically prevents the formation of reactive oxygen and thus reduces the production of amyloid beta protein.
Experts have also identified genes that are found in berries and activate mitochondrial protein (MTUPR). This greatly reduces beta protein production. Understanding the whole berry system in this way will pave the way for the treatment of Alzheimer’s.
