The French Senate has passed a resolution banning the wearing of hijab and participation in sports competitions.
According to foreign media, 160 votes were cast in favor of banning hijab and 143 against. An amendment to the hijab ban was passed by an extremist right-wing group.
The resolution justifies the violation of discipline by banning participation in sports competitions by wearing hijab. The commission, comprising members of the French Senate and lower house, will finalize the draft resolution.
