Leading Indian director Subhash Ghai has revealed that actor Sanjay Dutt was innocent at the time of his arrest in a case of illegal possession of firearms.
Subhash Ghai is one of the famous directors of Bollywood who has made many super hit films including “Khal Naik” and “Pardes”. In 1993, he made the film “Khal Naik” in which Sanjay Dutt played the role of a wanted criminal who goes to jail.
Coincidentally, at the time of the film’s release, Sanjay Dutt was sentenced by a court to five years in prison for possessing an illegal weapon in the Mumbai attack case and he went to jail in real life just like in the movie. Û”
The movie “Khal Naik” was a huge success at the box office and people thought that the arrest of Sanjay Dutt in real life has benefited the movie.
However, now almost 28 years later, the film’s director Subhash Ghai has revealed that he knew Sanjay Dutt very well and at that time he also knew that Sanjay Dutt was “innocent”.
Subhash Ghai said that it was a difficult time for Sanjay Dutt and taking advantage of this difficult time was against his morals so he did not spend a single rupee for the promotion of the film.
“I have known Sanjay Dutt since childhood. When he was arrested, I knew he was innocent and he was trapped. He was not guilty,” the director said. That is why I never used the arrest of Sanjay Dutt to promote the movie “Khal Naik”, I was silent at that time.
Apart from the arrest of Sanjay Dutt at the time of the release of the movie “Khal Naik”, there was a lot of fuss over the movie’s song “What’s Behind the Choli” and many political personalities were against Subhash Ghai because of this song. Û”
Director Subhash Ghai said that 32 political units were against me, cases were filed against me but I remained silent. Because I knew what film I made, what Sanjay Dutt did and what I sang behind the bra.
It may be recalled that Sanjay Dutt was arrested in April 1993 on charges of terrorism and illegal possession of weapons. He was later released on bail. However, his bail was revoked in 1994 after which he was re-arrested. He was released from prison in 1995.
