The Judicial Commission has recommended the appointment of Justice Ayesha in the Supreme Court

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has recommended the appointment of Justice Ayesha A. Malik of the Lahore High Court in the Supreme Court.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Qazi Faiz Issa and Justice Sardar Tariq among others participated.

Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed presided over the JCP meeting and approved the promotion of Justice Ayesha Malik by a majority of 5 votes to 4.
Following the recommendation of Justice Ayesha Malik by the Judicial Commission, the matter has been referred to the Parliamentary Committee on Appointment of Judges for final approval.

Following the JCP’s recommendation, Justice Ayesha Malik will become the country’s first female judge in the Supreme Court.

This is the second time that the JCP has met to decide on the development of Justice Ayesha Malik.

Lack of consensus during an extended meeting of the JCP on September 9 last year forced the commission to reject its promotion.

On the other hand, a heavy contingent of police was deployed in the Supreme Court by the Pakistan Bar Council on the occasion of the nationwide strike by the lawyers. However, the lawyers continued to appear in the Supreme Court as usual.
