The method of this common machine used in almost every home was accidentally discovered by an engineer Percy Spencer.
Percy was employed as an engineer at a company called Raytheon Corporation. One day he was working on a radar device called a magnetron when the chocolate in his pocket began to melt.
Percy experimented with the world’s first food popcorn in a microwave, and it was a success. With the results in mind, it was decided to enclose the microwaves in a safe box.
On October 8, 1945, Percy applied for a certificate of invention. Percy then unveiled the first microwave oven called the Radar Range, which was about the size of a refrigerator.
However, it was not offered for general household use for decades after its invention. Went to the microwave market in 1967 and then went on sale.
