De Cock’s surprise announcement to retire from Test

South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quentin de Kock surprised everyone by announcing his sudden retirement from Test cricket during the series.

According to foreign media, De Kock will not play the next two Tests in the ongoing home series against India.

Quentin de Kock said in a statement that the decision to retire was not an easy one. Before making a decision, consider your priorities and future. Family is important to me and I want to spend more time with my family. He loves cricket and is proud to represent his country.
De Kok’s decision also came as a surprise to the South African Cricket Board. The board says de Kock is being rested for the next match of the series so he can have his first child. De Kok’s first child is expected to be born at home.

Quentin de Kock, 29, a left-handed batsman, began his Test career in 2014. De Kock scored 3,003 runs in 54 Test matches with the help of 6 centuries and 22 half-centuries, while behind the wickets he bowled 232 batsmen.
