The world’s second-largest and 700-year-old tree is being treated with a drip like humans and animals. Interestingly, just as we are healed by inserting a drip medicine into a vein, it is possible to heal a tree by dripping it, or at least this is what this experiment has proven.
The tree is named Pirlamari which is located in the Indian city of Mehboob Nagar. Spread over an area of three acres, this tree is a wonderful tree of its kind which is also the second largest banyan tree in the world. Termites have been licking it for a long time and its healthy branches are weakening and falling. In December last year, public access to the tree, which used to be seen from afar, was cut off. Specialists then began treating him.
First, a small hole was drilled in the tree and an insecticide, Chloropyrifos, entered it, but to no avail. The affected parts of the tree were then drip-fed with light chloropyrifos in the bottles.
Ganga Reddy, a Forest Department official in Mehboob Nagar, said the trees were being drip-fed for 10 to 14 hours continuously. This tree has many trunks and each stem is fed with light chloropyrifos.
One hundred drops have been taken so far in this strange patient of nature and it has got very good results as the termites are getting less and less. According to experts, the sick tree is now out of danger and it is expected that he will recover in a few days. At present people are allowed to see the tree from a distance.
