Mumbai: Renowned Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has challenged new and inexperienced actors who are demanding huge compensation to perform.
According to Indian media reports , speaking at the Film Companion event, Karan Johar revealed that he is fed up with the increasing remuneration of new and less experienced actors.
Expressing frustration, he said that the new actors who are well aware of their previous films not running or failing have increased their remuneration.
He said that deals with old and seasoned actors make sense as their films dominate the box office but when new artists talk about compensation of Rs. 20 to 30 crore, it is beyond my comprehension.
Kiran said that if an actor wants so much compensation, he should show his performance report and prove himself as a successful actor at the box office.
Explaining the reason for Dharma Production not rejecting the actors, the filmmaker said that for the betterment of the production house, we do not deny any artist, which is very wrong, yes! But I have been in favor of giving more money to my technical staff because that is why the film is so special.
Expressing surprise without naming any production house or director, he said, “Why should I pay Rs 150 million to an actor and Rs 55 lakh to an editor?”
It may be recalled that during the last decade, Karan Johar’s production house has given actors like Alia Bhatt, Ananya Pandey, Jhanvi Kapoor to the Bollywood industry while now he has also directed Sanjay Kapoor’s daughter Shanaya in his new film ‘Roki Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’. I am giving a chance, in which Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh will also be seen acting.
