Tripoli: A migrant boat crashed while trying to reach Europe, killing 27 migrants and leaving their bodies off the coast of Libya.
According to Qatar’s state broadcaster Al Jazeera, the local Red Crescent said the bodies of 27 migrants trying to reach Europe had reached the coast of western Libya, while three people had been rescued.
The bodies include two women and a child. The bodies were found at two different locations in the city of Khums, 90 kilometers from Tripoli, the organization said.
Security officials told AFP News that an examination of the bodies showed that the migrant boat had sunk a few days earlier.
According to the United Nations Immigration Agency, a total of 1,500 migrants have died this year in various accidents on the Mediterranean route between Africa, Asia and Europe.
