ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister Hamad Azhar has said that 200,000 tonnes of furnace oil has been imported for winter.
Federal Minister Hamad Azhar said that due to high demand forecast, risk of further default in LNG cargoes and low stocks in power plants, 200,000 tonnes of furnace oil was imported for winter, due to annual closure of canals and dams. Since the emission of water has been reduced, so the plants running on furnace oil are running and in the next few days the consumption of furnace oil will be 13 thousand tons per day.
On Twitter, he said that some misconceptions about furnace oil need to be clarified. In summer, Pakistan faced mild shortage of furnace oil as power plants were run more due to less water in the dams as compared to the previous year. Furnace oil consumption was 116% higher than last year, local refineries are producing half of that volume and IPPs’ reserves are still below the required level.
