Karachi: A documentary film based on the life of Qandil Baloch was screened at America’s largest documentary film festival ‘Doc NYC’.

The documentary is directed by Safia Usmani and co-directed by Saad Zubair. “A Life to Short” features aspects of the life of Pakistan’s controversial social media star Qandil Baloch. Qandil Baloch was killed in the name of honor by his own brother.
The director of the film Safia Zafar Usmani says about her documentary that it took her more than three years to make this film but now that this film is ready to be shown all over the world, I am nervous but Be passionate about it. There is no doubt that Qandil Baloch’s dreams were big and he had the courage to create a separate identity. But every time I realize that many of us women don’t have the basic right to live as we wish, I get nervous.
Documentary co-director Saad Zubair says it is always difficult to make a film about one’s life. But it is even more difficult when your subject is misunderstood like Kandil Baloch. The story of Qandil’s life goes far beyond how his life ended. And it is very important for the world to know what Kandil Baloch paid for fulfilling his dream and we hope that this film will highlight every aspect of Kandil’s life.
It should be noted that the documentary film “A Life Two Shorts” is one of the 12 films screened at the American Documentary Film Festival. Last year, seven of the 10 documentaries were shortlisted for the Oscar Short Film category, of which three short films screened at the festival were nominated for Oscars.
The film, which won the award at this year’s American Documentary Festival, will be considered for nomination in the Short Documentary category of the annual Academy Awards 2021.
