Washington: Members of the US House of Representatives have called on President Joe Biden to restore Afghanistan’s frozen assets.
In a letter to US President Joe Biden and the US Treasury Department, members of the House of Representatives from the Democratic Party called for the restoration of Afghanistan’s frozen assets.
In the letter, members said they stand with US allies and human rights activists on the issue of Afghanistan. The US government should refrain from any economic measures for Afghanistan that could harm the Afghan people, including Afghan children and women.
The letter added that Afghanistan’s deteriorating economic situation could lead to a humanitarian catastrophe and a new refugee crisis in the region. The United States should immediately restore the frozen assets of Afghanistan.
The death toll from Afghanistan’s assets is expected to rise in 2022, more than the number of deaths in 20 years.
