ISLAMABAD: A delegation of Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) called on Federal Minister for Information Chaudhry Fawad Hussain and Minister of State for Information Farrukh Habib.
Federal Minister for Information Chaudhry Fawad Hussain and Minister of State for Information Farrukh Habib congratulated the newly elected members of CPNE. The CPNE delegation apprised the Federal Minister of Information of the concerns regarding the new digital policy, including the unfair distribution of advertisements and the problems faced by the regional newspapers and said that they welcome the government’s digital media policy. Current publications of CPNE must be registered by default under the Digital Media Policy.
On this, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said that member publications of CPNE will be registered by default under the new digital policy. If any media institution wants to move towards transformation, it will be given full support, liaison between the officials of the Ministry of Information and the media institutions.
Appreciating the efforts of CPNE, he said that CPNE is the representative body of journalists of the whole country and the role of CPNE in protecting the rights of journalists is unforgettable. Strengthening the regional press will benefit Pakistan and will help in strengthening the regional newspapers. After the 18th amendment, regional newspapers are a provincial subject, money is transferred from the federation to the provinces, regional newspapers are not getting the facilities they are supposed to get. Information technology will help in digitization of newspapers. With the advancement of news dissemination technology, the importance of regional media has also increased. Regional media plays an important role in highlighting local issues.
He further said that transparency in the advertising system has been made possible, the Press Information Department has started paperless work, soon PID will be made paperless. At present the entire advertising system is paperless, all advertisements have been digitized, issues like delay in release order have also been resolved, and linking PID directly to AGPR has facilitated payments. Will be Payments for advertisements have not been delayed till April 2020. All payments have been made since 2018. There are some issues regarding client payments, we will talk to our clients about them. The PTI government has passed the Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals Act 2021 to protect the rights of journalists. The government is behind working journalists.
On this occasion, Minister of State Farrukh Habib said that DGPR is working within the provinces, will also talk about implementing the formula of 85/15 in the provinces, the new digital media policy will promote transparency.
During the meeting, Federal Minister for Information Chaudhry Fawad Hussain and Minister of State for Information Farrukh Habib listened attentively to the issues of the CPNE delegation and assured a solution.
The CPNE delegation includes President Kazim Khan, Senior Vice President Ayaz Khan, Secretary General Amir Mahmood, Deputy Secretary General Yousuf Nizami, Vice President Islamabad Sardar Khan Niazi, Joint Secretary (Islamabad), Shakeel Ahmad Turabi, Joint Secretary ( Punjab (Tanveer Shaukat), Vice President (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) Dr. Hafiz Sanaullah Khan, Joint Secretary (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) Tahir Farooq, Joint Secretary (Sindh) Ghulam Nabi Khan Chandio and other members were present while Principal Information Officer Sohail Ali Khan was also present in the meeting.
