BEIJING ( Reuters) – China’s state-of-the-art hypersonic fighter jet was reportedly rejected by NASA 20 years ago, but China is now working on the design.
According to the South China Morning Post, the design was made in the 1990s by Ming Hongtang, a Chinese-born chief engineer affiliated with NASA, but was rejected by US officials.
Dozens of Chinese experts, including Ming Hong Tang, returned home in 2000 after tensions between the United States and China escalated. And around the same time, China began work on a hypersonic aircraft project.
It should be noted that anything that can move five times or more than the speed of sound is called ‘hypersonic’ in technical language.
The progress so far on this project is that the tests of the prototype engine of this aircraft have been successfully completed. However, it is far from complete.
It is based on NASA’s obsolete X-47C (X-47C) project, under which Professor Tang designed a two-stage aircraft: in the first phase, its engines work like ordinary jet engines. While taking it to the appropriate height; Then they would go into ‘hypersonic mode’ to move faster and the speed of the plane would be five times faster than the sound.
Boeing Corporation had initially worked on the Menta X47C program, but due to some technical and financial reasons, NASA canceled the project.
So far, so much is known about the Chinese hypersonic aircraft that its engines have been successfully tested in a state-of-the-art wind tunnel at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in Jiangsu, China.
It is capable of testing prototypes of air tunnels, planes and missiles at speeds 4 to 8 times faster than sound.
Following this success, the Chinese hypersonic aircraft project is expected to move forward rapidly.
