UAE announces two-and-a-half-day weekend in offices

Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a two-and-a-half-day holiday a week, saying its offices will now be open for only four and a half days.

According to the International News Agency, the United Arab Emirates has introduced a new schedule for working hours under which Saturday and Sunday will be holidays while Friday will be only four and a half hours.

Office hours are set for Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., while work will be on Friday until 11:30 p.m. Employees can also “work from home” on Fridays.
The change in working hours is aimed at improving the balance between employment and family, which in turn will increase the productivity of employees.

These working hours will be applicable in all departments of the Federal Government from January 1, 2022. With this announcement, the time for the Friday prayer sermon in the UAE for the whole year has been fixed at one o’clock.
