New Delhi:
A new species of butterfly has been discovered in the Indian state of Sikkim, with golden yellow and chocolate-colored edges.
Sonam Wangchak, a local resident, named Lepcha, is keen on adventure. And to fulfill this passion, she was looking at butterflies in the nearby green area and taking pictures of them. Meanwhile, a butterfly appeared and in view of its beauty, Sonam immediately took a picture of it.
Little did he know that this image of his would lead to the discovery of a new species of butterfly.
Sonam sends her photographs to entomologists at the National Center for Biological Sciences (NCBS) in Bangalore. So that they can identify them and upload them on the Butterflies of India website.
All observations submitted on this website are reviewed by an expert panel. While reviewing the picture of Sonam’s yellow butterfly, the experts noted that this butterfly was a species which was previously unknown in India.
Sonam is from China but Sonam herself lives in India. His close relatives are in southeastern China.
