Paris: The United Arab Emirates has signed an agreement to buy 80 French-made Rafale fighter jets.
According to the French news agency France24, the agreement between the UAE and France on fighter jets is the largest international agreement ever.
The French presidency issued a statement stating that the UAE, one of the largest consumers in the French defense industry, had also agreed to purchase 12 Caracal military transport helicopters.
The statement said that this is the result of a strategic partnership between the two countries which strengthens the ability to work together for sovereignty and security.
French officials say the deal for jets and helicopters is worth about 17 billion euros. In a tweet, French Defense Minister Florence Parley called the agreement “historic” and said it would play a direct role in regional stability.
