Karachi: Today is Parveen Shakir’s 69th birthday.
Parveen Shakir was born on November 24, 1954 in Karachi. She belonged to a scholarly and literary family in which there were many famous poets before her.
After doing MA in English Literature from Karachi University, Parveen joined the field of teaching and learning but after some time she got government job and participated in various programs of Radio Pakistan.
The first collection of poetry by Parveen Shakir Kwan, who started writing poetry at an early age
“Fragrance” was awarded the Adam G Award. His other poetry collections Khod Kalami, Sadberg, Ankar, Mahi Tam and Kaf Aina also received immense acclaim.
An interesting coincidence with Parveen Shakir was that when she sat for the Central Superior Services (CSS) examination in 1982, one of the questions in the Urdu paper was related to her poetry.
