US threatens Russia over anti-satellite missile test

WASHINGTON: The United States has expressed outrage at Russia’s testing of a dangerous and irresponsible missile in space from Earth, saying it would take allies into confidence and work out a plan of action.

According to the International News Agency, Russia targeted its own satellite in a missile test in space, but before this test, the forces of other countries in space were not notified in advance.

The United States has strongly criticized Russia’s missile test, saying the wreckage of the satellite caused debris to fall into space, prompting crews on the International Space Station to take immediate and emergency measures to protect themselves or face damage.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blanken said Russia’s negligence had caused more than 1,500 pieces to spread into orbit, after which four Americans, a German and two Russians at the space station had to take refuge in their returning planes.

Russia’s Defense Ministry, on the other hand, rejected US claims that satellite fragments in orbit became space debris, saying in a statement that the United States itself was testing new weapons in space, while China and India had done the same.
