Bamako: Nun Gloria Cecilia, a 56-year-old Colombian from Mali, was released by her captors four years later.
The nun, who was abducted on February 7, 2017, from the Mali-Burkina Faso border was finally released, according to the International News Agency. Gloria Cecilia was a missionary and was involved in relief work in troubled areas.
A statement from the presidency said, “The release of Sister Gloria is the result of a concerted effort by several intelligence agencies, but no details have been released.”
A spokeswoman for Mali’s presidential palace tweeted congratulations on the release of Nun Gloria Cecilia and paid tribute to her courage and bravery.
On this occasion, Sister Gloria said that I am grateful to the President of Mali and all the citizens who worked hard for my release, may God bless them and keep them safe.
A colleague of Sister Gloria Cecilia recounted the abduction, saying the abductors were taking two other relatively young female monks, but instead of the girls, the sister presented herself to the abductors.
