Taliban Need To Demonstrate

WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken says relations with the Taliban depend on their attitude, so they need to demonstrate, not just talk.

Speaking to Afghan News Agency, US Secretary of State Anthony Blanken said that the United States came to Afghanistan to eliminate Al Qaeda, so we succeeded in our goal, a century ago Osama bin Laden was brought to justice while Al-Qaeda has not been able to target any other country.

“Afghan forces are brave and sacrificed their lives against terrorism, but as an institution the Afghan army failed miserably and the government fled,” said Anthony Blanken. “I spoke to them the night before Ashraf Ghani fled the country. He vowed to fight the Taliban to the last, but fled the next day, and the United States had no hand in getting Ashraf Ghani to flee.
Regarding the recognition of the Taliban government, the US Secretary of State said that the Taliban leadership wanted them to be recognized internationally and to provide assistance, but that it depended solely on what the Taliban did. Therefore, the Taliban’s relations with the United States and other countries will have to do with their behavior.

The Secretary of State said that the United States stands with the Afghan people and will continue to work with future governments if they remain committed to the war on terror and the protection of human rights.
